The wall was constructed according to a standard detail for clay conditions ( 700 mm X 200 mm concrete foundation, subsoil drain behind wall, free draining back fill 300 mm wide directly behind wall, hand tamped topsoil filled into blocks ). A small berm was shaped behind wall to prevent storm water from running over the blocks during rainstorms.

New Retaining Wall, Erf 9570 Schoongezight Estate, Plettenberg Bay
A retaining wall installed with the Sholin block which are being manufactured in Knysna.
